Moya Matcha Traditional, for Drinking with Water and for Lattes
It has an intensely green color, a well-balanced sweet-bitter flavor, and a delicate tea aroma. It's perfect both for enjoying in the traditional way and for making matcha lattes, smoothies, and cocktails. Thanks to its versatility, Moya Matcha Traditional is a great choice for anyone just starting their matcha journey. It's made exclusively from fresh leaves from the first and second harvest, grown under special shading mats that protect them from the sun. This gives the leaves a higher chlorophyll and L-theanine content, along with their intensely green color.
How is Moya Matcha made?
Moya Matcha is made from the Okumidori, Yabukita, and Saemidori varieties, grown in the Kyoto (Uji) and Kagoshima prefectures, renowned for their fertile soil and pure waters. Green tea thrives there thanks to plentiful rainfall, sun-drenched hills, and the mist that forms between them, protecting the delicate leaves from frost.
The bushes that Moya Matcha comes from are carefully grown on small, family-run tea farms free from pesticides. The entire matcha production process is remarkably time-consuming, and every batch is carefully inspected.
Right after harvest, while still in Japan, the leaves are dried and ground into a fine powder, then shipped to Europe in small batches to ensure maximum freshness. This helps preserve all of the tea's properties and keep its mineral and antioxidant content high.
Using a bamboo chashaku scoop, put two portions of matcha (approx. 1.5 g) into the bowl (matchawan). Pour in 100 ml of hot water at no more than 80°C and whisk everything with a bamboo whisk (chasen) for about 30 seconds. Make movements resembling the letter Z or N until a dense, smooth foam forms on the surface of the drink. You can then add more water, depending on how strong you like your tea.
Even if you don't have a full matcha accessory set, you can prepare this tea in just a few moments. And in several different ways!
The modern way
Pour approx. 1.5 g of matcha into a mug or glass, add 100 ml of hot water at no more than 80°C and mix thoroughly. You can use, for example, a milk frother for this. Add water, a plant-based drink, or juice to taste.
In a shaker
Pour a portion of the powder into a shaker or a bottle with water, milk, or juice. Then screw the lid on tightly and shake vigorously a few times. If you want to take your own matcha to work, on a trip, or to the gym, the handy To Go! set lets you easily prepare your favourite drink wherever you are!
How to prepare matcha latte?
Mix approx. 3 g of matcha with a small amount of hot water (approx. 50 ml), then add 200 ml of frothed plant-based drink. You can sweeten your matcha latte with sugar, a teaspoon of honey, maple syrup, or agave syrup.

We suggest three ways to prepare matcha. The first is the traditional preparation in a bowl using a chasen whisk, using “M” or “Z” shaped motions. Matcha can also be prepared in a mug or bowl using a milk frother. The third way is to prepare matcha in a shaker or bottle – simply add the matcha to the liquid and shake vigorously for 30 seconds. The optimal water temperature for matcha is approximately 80°C. Higher temperatures will cause the matcha to lose its nutritional value. You can also easily prepare matcha in cold water. The optimal amount of matcha is about 1.5 g of powder per 200-250 ml of liquid.
The most versatile and frequently chosen option is Traditional Matcha. It comes from the first and second harvest of leaves, which contributes to a moderate level of bitterness and a distinct umami taste. It is an excellent choice for drinking with water as well as in the form of matcha lattes and smoothies. For experienced matcha connoisseurs, we recommend Luxury Matcha from the first harvest, which is perfect for drinking with water and contains the most nutrients. If you like an intense flavor and use matcha mostly for matcha lattes, smoothies, desserts, and baked goods, choose Daily Matcha, which comes from the second and third harvest.
Matcha is very sensitive to sunlight and high temperatures, which can cause it to lose its properties. Matcha should be stored in its original, sealed packaging in a shaded, cool place, preferably in the refrigerator. This will ensure it stays fresh for a long time.
Loose-leaf tea is consumed as an infusion, meaning what the leaves release into the water. Matcha, on the other hand, consists of powdered tea leaves that are consumed in their entirety after being mixed with liquid. By drinking matcha, you are therefore consuming the whole leaves. In this way, all the nutrients contained within them enter your body. Furthermore, matcha is several times more potent than loose-leaf tea.
